Tuum: Estonia's Cloud-native Core Banking Platform Revolutionizing Fintechs and Banks

Core banking is where product roadmaps go to die.

Tuum is an Estonia-born, cloud-native core banking platform used by banks and fintechs that want to ship new accounts, cards, payments, and lending without dragging a 20-year-old stack behind them.

The pitch is modular: pick the pieces you need today, add more later, and migrate progressively instead of doing a “big bang” core swap. That is how you win deals in regulated markets where downtime is a career-ending event.

It is B2B software with long contracts and real switching costs. If Tuum runs your ledger and products, it sits at the center of your unit economics, compliance processes, and partner integrations.

The company started as Modularbank and rebranded to Tuum in 2021. It raised a €4m seed round in December 2020, a €15m Series A in January 2022 led by Portage, and a €25m Series B in February 2024 led by CommerzVentures with Speedinvest participating.

One clean signal: Bondora picked Tuum in 2025 as it plans a digital bank build-out, with deposit and lending products on the roadmap. This is the kind of customer that cares about time-to-launch, multi-country complexity, and not breaking the existing credit machine.

Founding team includes Vilve Vene plus co-founders from Tallinn, and the company has pushed into the UK and Nordics while talking up expansion into DACH and beyond. FinBox Solutions picked Tuum today because “core” is quietly becoming the biggest wedge in European fintech again: more licensing, more supervision, and more pressure to modernize without drama.

If you were launching a regulated fintech in Europe in 2026, would you buy a modern core like Tuum, or build on top of a legacy bank sponsor and accept the constraints?
