Munify – Payments platform for diaspora communities
Banking without borders. Munify (YC S25) is building a neobank for expatriates from Egypt and the broader Middle East.
Users can open USD accounts instantly, get a virtual card, and send money home at competitive FX rates. Beyond consumers, Munify provides an API for companies to handle international payroll and vendor payments.
The company earns from FX spreads, interchange, and payment flow fees.
Founded by former Microsoft and Uber engineer Khalid Ashmawy, Munify recently raised a $3 M seed round from Y Combinator, BYLD, and DCG. Thousands of people have already signed up, and signed business contracts represent more than $50 M in projected monthly cross‑border volume.
As remittance volumes surge and MENA markets liberalise, Munify could become the Revolut of the Middle East.
Will diaspora banks out‑innovate domestic giants?
