Magie simplifies payments through AI in WhatsApp chats
Magie is an AI-powered financial assistant revolutionizing payments through WhatsApp. By leveraging Brazil’s Pix network, it transforms chats into seamless financial transactions, eliminating the need for traditional banking apps.
I still remember the first time I tried to pay a bill on my phone and thought, “Why does this still feel like filling out a form in 2009?” We talk to everything now, but money still expects you to tap, copy, paste, confirm, and pray.
Fintech of my choice: Magie
When I first heard about Magie, my honest reaction was: I thought Siri, Google, or Alexa would be the first to nail this. But they did not. Two founders from Brazil did, and they did it where people already live every day: inside WhatsApp.
Magie is an AI-powered financial assistant that lets you do real financial actions through chat. Not “check your balance” demos. Actual Pix transfers, utility bill payments, reminders. You can type, send a voice note, or even share a photo, and the bot turns that into a payment flow.
The product is built on top of Pix, Brazil’s instant payment network, which is exactly why this works. Pix is fast, trusted, and already part of daily life. Magie just removes the last friction layer, the banking app UI.
The numbers are already meaningful. Magie has raised a $4M seed round led by Lux Capital. They say more than 400,000 users have moved over $380M through the bot. For a conversational interface, that is not “engagement.” That is financial behavior.
Co-founders Luiz Ramalho and João Camargo are betting that the next banking interface is not a new app. It is a new habit. Their business logic is straightforward: earn transaction fees, and over time license the conversational AI layer to banks and retailers that want the same experience without building it from scratch.
The moat, if they execute, is in two places. First, natural language that actually understands financial intents in messy real life, across text, voice, and images. Second, deep integration with regulated payment rails. Lots of chatbots can talk. Very few can safely move money.
I have built consumer fintech products, including for kids and for investing, and I have learned one hard truth: UX is not decoration. UX is distribution. If Magie becomes the default way people pay, banking becomes invisible, and whoever owns that moment owns the relationship.

Next time I am in Brazil, I want to watch someone pay bills with a voice note and see if it feels normal in 30 seconds. Because if it does, the old “banking app” model will start to look very outdated, very fast.
Would you trust a WhatsApp bot to send money and pay your utilities, or do you still need the “official banking app” feeling to be comfortable?
