About Fintech of the day
Hi, I’m Dmitry Prostov (2x exited founder). I’m a fintech builder, a husband, and a dad. I live in Cascais, Portugal. I’ve spent around 15 years building fintech products. At some point, I caught myself thinking fintech had become boring. Same ideas, same pitch decks, same neobank, payments, card issuing, investment app loop.
So I started doing something simple. Every day, I look for one fintech project that feels genuinely interesting. Sometimes it’s a new wedge. Sometimes it’s an underrated niche. Sometimes it’s a practical execution that actually works. Not every company here will change the world. But every company here should be worth learning from.
One more thing. The project that gets the most community votes becomes FinTech of the Week.
Fintech Sensei
I built fintech in Japan, and I genuinely love the country. Somewhere along the way, people started calling me FinTech Sensei. That nickname became a rubric here, too. FinTech Sensei is where I share my founder journey in public. The wins, the failures, the doubts, the resets, and the mindset shifts that keep me moving.
Where FinBox Solutions fits in

I run FinBox Solutions, a product studio and platform that helps teams launch and scale fintech products faster. We work on things like white label banking and investment experiences, and the unglamorous parts that make fintech real. KYC flows, onboarding, ledgers, compliance constraints, distribution, retention.
That builder perspective shapes how I write. I care about what survives contact with reality. Product depth, switching costs, unit economics, and whether a team is solving a problem people actually pay for.
What you’ll find here
Posts are intentionally short. I’m aiming for signal, not length. Each post tries to answer the basics in plain English. What it does. Who it’s for. How it likely makes money. What looks strong? What looks risky? What I would validate next.
If I can’t confirm something from public sources, I’ll say so. I’d rather be transparent than pretend.
Editorial rules
- Fintech only. Banking, payments, lending, wealth, insurance, regtech, identity, crypto infrastructure, and adjacent tools that move money or reduce financial friction.
- No paid placements disguised as picks. If sponsorship ever happens, it will be labeled clearly.
- Substance over vibes. Real product, real use case, real constraints.
- Clear writing. Minimal jargon.
- Founder-friendly, but not naive. Every business has tradeoffs. I’ll mention them.
